Each month Move Seniors Lovingly- Etobicoke | Peel | Halton plans to profile one of the retirement residences they’ve had the pleasure of working with to showcase what makes them exceptional. October’s Featured Residence is The Village of Erin Meadows.

Imagine being able to take a stroll around a scenic village without ever leaving the comfort of your retirement residence. This is precisely the charm of The Village of Erin Meadows. When I first arrived for a tour, I couldn’t help but be enchanted by the cozy indoor gazebo in the Town Square, decorated at this time of year in fall foliage. The Town Square is where most social events occur, illuminated by tons of natural light. It’s also where the main dining area is.

There is the Social Club and Pub to unwind and the Art Studio with a Demonstrative Kitchen for cooking lessons, to name a few hot spots. My favourite spot was the Pet Store, where residents can hang out with a friendly rabbit or take a mindful moment marvelling at the fish.
The Village has absolutely everything one needs, including a General Store and Riverstone Spa and Salon, which means you don’t have to battle the elements on a cold day for care and comfort. There’s a thoughtfulness to the layout of the residence that is very community-oriented.
Bradley Hiltz, one of the Directors of Lifestyle Options, believes that genuine connection makes The Village of Erin Meadows a hub for friendships. “This is a place where even the design fosters connection. It’s where you know people and are known by people.”

The Village of Erin Meadows has various floors that are considered neighbourhoods.
There is the Ailsa Craig Neighbourhood for Independent Living Apartments, Becker Neighbourhood for Retirement Apartments, Williamsburg Neighbourhood for Full Service Retirement Suites, Egerton Neighbourhood for Assisted Care Suites, Emma’s Neighbourhood for Memory Care Suites and so on. Bradley said that the neighbourhood design was a huge asset during the pandemic when many activities were restricted. Neighbours could gather at a safe distance and continue to socialize during trying times. The well-sized, light-filled suites also ensured that people didn’t feel boxed in.
When seniors downsize from a home to a residence, they might be concerned about whether there will be enough space in their suite. The Village of Erin Meadows immediately calms those reservations. Touring a spacious 2-bedroom apartment on the Ailsa Craig floor with high windows flooded with light, a walk-through closet, two bathrooms, a nice-sized kitchen and en-suite laundry means that even guests can comfortably stay without being cramped. Many residents even have enough room for a small office.

It’s a place where residents, team members and visiting family and friends can enjoy breaking bread together. You can delight in a night ‘out on the town’ eating Shrimp and Crab Penne or an 8 oz New York Striploin without leaving the residence.
This is one residence that I won’t soon forget. I could just imagine the ease of mind one might feel knowing that a loved one is receiving such great care. It’s a place where you can rely on your neighbours and feel surrounded by the brightness and warmth of a village, no matter the season!
