Atmosphere:
The first thing that caught my eye at Evergreen Retirement Community was the beautiful skylight in the lobby that bathed residents in light as they chatted with each other. You could feel the place buzzing with friendly energy and residents enjoying themselves. Their sleek library also looked like the perfect spot for residents to browse for their next great read. Their tuck shop complemented the lively atmosphere, and the dining room was so spacious and well laid-out that it was instantly inviting.
This exciting energy is what makes Evergreen Retirement Community unique. Community Relations Manager Sarah Horne has witnessed the change in residents first-hand when it comes to moving in, “The most rewarding thing is seeing someone struggling and then seeing the life brought back into them.” During the height of the pandemic, Sarah and the staff connected with residents by setting up treat carts to roll to the various floors and hosted musical performances that residents could listen to from their balconies. “I hope that people can find their forever home here,” she says, “where they can live life to the fullest in a safe and comfortable environment.”
A typical day at Evergreen Retirement Community could mean exploring the local food program, participating in movie nights or ice cream socials, or enjoying the outdoor patio or live entertainment such as singers. There’s also a pub/bistro/café where residents can find a different menu and relaxed vibe that is certain to charm guests.

Highlights:
An incredible feature is the bowling alley (you read that right) and adjoining 50s diner. The bowling alley and diner immediately transport you to an era of Old Hollywood elegance, with jukeboxes on every table and portraits of greats like Elizabeth Taylor and Elvis Presley adorning the walls. I could easily imagine several generations enjoying a special gathering such as a birthday celebration at the diner.

They also have a swimming pool and fitness centre, both excellent ways to continue living an active lifestyle. There’s also an art program called Meet me at the MoMA, which is part activity class and part art history class. It’s hard to imagine a dull moment with so much to offer in this space!

The personal suites are equally bright and spacious enough to have family and friends visit. Depending on a resident’s needs, various levels of personalized care are offered, ranging from independent living to assisted living lifestyle.
