Charming Spots for Seniors to Make the Most of Fall in Wellington County

It’s the time of year again when you can feel the slightest chill in the air, prompting you to start replacing your breezy summer clothes with warmer layers and marking a spot on your calendar to take a scenic drive and enjoy the fall foliage. There’s nothing quite like fall in southwest Ontario, especially in rural counties like Wellington (which includes two towns and five townships), filled with accessible trails, seasonal markets, and more.

From Fergus to Elora to Erin, here are a couple of Move Seniors Lovingly – Wellington County’s suggestions for senior-friendly spots to make the most of the fall in and around Wellington County:

Epic Walking Trails

Where: Various locations like Elora and Fergus

Wellington County has many accessible trails, perfect for active seniors who want to breathe in the crisp autumn air. The 12.6km Cottontail Road Trail starts in Elora and extends towards the Kissing Bridge Trail. For those who want to enjoy a fall day without too much distance attached, the 0.5km Templin Garden Trail in downtown Fergus is a must-see. For more information, click here.

Elora Centre for the Arts

Where: 75 Melville Street, Elora

If you prefer to head indoors when the temperatures dip, the Elora Centre for the Arts has a full fall program for you to check out–from exhibitions to art studio workshops to book launches. Seniors also enjoy a discounted annual membership of $35, so you can get your art fix all year. For more information, click here.

St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market

Where: 878 Weber St N, Woolwich (just outside the county)

Peak harvest season has arrived at St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market, a large indoor and outdoor market established in 1975 by Old Order Mennonites, filled with fresh produce, antiques, and artisanal goods. The weeks before Thanksgiving are prime time to stock up on apples, squash, corn, and more. With plenty of seating and attractions for all ages, like wagon rides for the grandchildren, we think it’s the perfect place for a fall outing. Just don’t leave without trying one of the market’s famous apple fritters! For more information, click here.

Harmony Meadows Alpaca Farm

Where: 6185 6 Line, Belwood

If you’re an animal-loving senior, visiting Harmony Meadows Alpaca Farm means you can learn about 30 of these lovely residential alpacas before the winter weather hits. Apparently, petting an alpaca is an incredibly soothing experience, so we hope you enjoy the healthy benefits of communing with these gentle creatures. You’ll also have a chance to browse their shop and stock up on fall essentials, like cozy socks and throws made of Alpaca-fibre. For more information, click here.
